Clare Dreyfus Scholarship
The Clare Dreyfus Scholarship Fund was designed to recognize and offer financial assistance to any senior graduating from any Milwaukee Public High School who is intending to make the honorable profession of teaching their career. It was created by action of the MCCPTA in honor of Clare Dreyfus who gave more than a quarter century to the Milwaukee Public School System.
The scholarship, in the sum of $500 is allotted as follows:
The sum of $250 is paid to the student upon enrollment in an accredited teacher training course of study.
The additional $250 is given to the student upon enrollment for the fourth year in an accredited School of Education.
There is one stipulation: the recipient must graduate from an accredited School of Education or return the money, without interest, the the Scholarship Fund as soon as possible.
If the second payment is not applied within six years of the date of such scholarship, the money is returned to the active account of the the Scholarship Fund.
Any student who is a senior, eligible for graduation in June from a Milwaukee Public High School, who intends to make teaching a career may apply.
Candidates nominated by the high schools are evaluated on the following factors:
Transcript of high school scholarship record, indicating the approximate rank within the graduating class.
Record of extra-curricular activities.
Recommendation from the principal or counselor.
Statement of at least 500 words "Why I Chose Teaching as my Career" written by the candidate.
Donations are needed to maintain this Scholarship Fund. Only through donations are scholarships given.
